CEB to reduce electricity tariff rates by 18 percent?

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) plans to reduce electricity tariffs by 18 percent, attributing the possibility of this reduction mainly to the increased contribution of hydropower to Sri Lanka's energy mix, thanks to recent sufficient rainfall that enhanced the power generation capacity of major plants. This anticipated move follows a series of tariff adjustments, including a 66 percent increase in February and a subsequent 14 percent decrease from July. The CEB is preparing to submit its proposals for the tariff reduction to the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka, after tariffs were last increased in October of the previous year. The adjustments in tariffs have been a response to fluctuating weather conditions affecting power generation costs.
