According to Finance State Minister Dr. Ranjith Siyambalapitiya, the Sri Lankan rupee has emerged as one of the fastest-growing currencies globally. In a statement released by the Government Information Department, he highlighted the remarkable growth of the rupee in the first four months of the year compared to other currencies worldwide. During this period, the rupee has surged by 9.1 percent against the US dollar and by 12.7 percent against the euro. Additionally, it has gained 10.8 percent against the Sterling pound and 11.4 percent against the Chinese yuan. Dr. Siyambalapitiya also noted significant growth percentages against other major currencies: 21 percent against the Japanese yen, 9.5 percent against the Indian rupee, and 14.2 percent against the Australian dollar. This upward trajectory signifies a substantial strengthening of the Sri Lankan rupee in the global currency market.
