CBSL predicts positive economic growth this year
  • Sri Lanka is expected to record positive annual economic growth in 2024 for the first time since the economic crisis.

Governor of the Central Bank, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, has predicted that Sri Lanka will record positive annual economic growth in 2024 for the first time since the economic crisis. Speaking on Ada Derana’s current affairs programme “At HydePark,” the CBSL Chief emphasized the importance of continuing the current economic strategy. Dr. Weerasinghe noted that Sri Lanka had reached the final stage of external debt restructuring and had nearly achieved short-term economic sustainability. He also mentioned that as part of the long-term plan for economic revival, Sri Lanka must ensure an economic growth rate between 4% and 5% in the coming years while preserving the short-term gains achieved under the restructuring programme.
