The budget deficit has increased in 2019: With lower revenue and higher expenditure

The recently released figures for 2019 show that government revenue has fallen from 13.4% of GDP in 2018 to 12.6% of GDP in 2019. Meanwhile, government expenditure has increased from 17.7% of GDP in 2018 to 19.4% of GDP in 2019. This has caused a significant increase in the budget deficit from 5.3% of GDP in 2018 to 6.8% of GDP in 2019.

However, the increasing nature of the budget deficit has been a common practice during the pre-election period.
